What is 3D/4D ultrasound?
3D/4D ultrasound in an elective, non-invasive exam designed to offer a “peek” inside the womb. Traditional 2D ultrasound returns a black and white image of your baby in utero. 3D ultrasound uses advanced technology to capture a detailed image of your baby. Often, facial expressions and other features are beautifully captured. 4D ultrasound takes a video image of your baby inside the womb, capturing both features and movement.
How can I prepare for my 3d/4d ultrasound?
We recommend drinking plenty of water for at least one week prior to your appointment, as hydration plays a large part in creating clear images. Drinking a glass of orange juice can sometimes help “wake baby up” so we suggest doing this about 15-20 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. This can increase the possibility of capturing optimal images. We will do our best to achieve the best images possible.
What if my baby is ‘uncooperative’?
Every now and then we may not be able to obtain the exact images you desire. The mother’s body type and amount of fluid around the baby can affect or limit our abilities. You will be provided with the best possible photos to choose from. We do not offer refunds as we cannot control the baby’s position and/or other circumstances specific to patients.
Is the process safe?
YES! Ultrasound uses sound waves to generate images. Also, we follow FDA guidelines to ensure mom and baby are not at risk for overexposure. No radiation, medication or IVs are required. The procedure is painless for both mom and baby.
How far along in my pregnancy should I be?
The ideal time for 3D/4D ultrasound is between the 24th and 34th week. This can vary, so call us if you are considering having your 3D/4D ultrasound before or after this time frame.
Does this replace the ultrasound at my doctor’s office?
No. 3D/4D ultrasound is an elective, non-diagnostic procedure. You should still see your doctor on a regular basis. They will conduct diagnostic ultrasounds as they see fit.
Does my insurance cover the cost of elective ultrasounds?
3D/4D ultrasound is an elective procedure that most insurance plans do not cover. However, we offer affordable pricing and payment options (such as a split payment, pay in 2-3 payments, before session.)
